A FREE bulk waste and junk drop-off event will be held on Sunday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Waste Management Outer Loop Landfill, 2673 Outer Loop.  Residents throughout Jefferson County may drop off bulky items not accepted during regular garbage collection such as appliances, furniture and mattresses.

State Sets Hearings on LG&E Rate Increases

lge

The Kentucky Public Service Commission has scheduled public meetings in Louisville and Lexington to hear citizens' comments on projects planned by Louisville Gas & Electric Co. and sister company Kentucky Utilities to comply with environmental regulations.

The May 23 and May 26 meetings also will focus on their planned surcharges on electric rates to pay for the projects.

The Public Service Commission meeting in Louisville is primarily for LG&E customers and will be May 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the Valley High School auditorium, 10200 Dixie Highway.

A second meeting is set for May 26 at 5:30 p.m. in Lexington for primarily KU customers.  It will be at the Conference Center, Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Leestown Road Campus, 164 Opportunity Way.

If the plans are approved, the utilities estimate that total electric bills for LG&E customers would increase by about 2.5 percent by 2020, while KU customers would see total bills increase by about 3.4 percent by 2019.  The bill impacts then decline through 2024 for both utilities.

For those unable to attend the upcoming meetings, the staff presentation will be available on the PSC website, psc.ky.gov, beginning May 23.
