 The “Run for the Roses” is
next Saturday! And, the race is on to get those last-minute Kentucky
Derby tickets!
BBB is warning those of
you who want to attend the Kentucky Derby to beware of scam artists trying to
fool you into buying fake Derby tickets!
-
The best way to avoid
getting scammed is to deal with a business that you know is legitimate. You can
check out businesses at bbb.org.
- Also, just in case you
don’t get what you signed up for, pay with a credit card so that you can
dispute the charge.
- And, be careful when you
are using online auction sites, or sites like Craigslist. Scam artists often
ask ticket seekers to send money through Western Union. BBB has had reports of
ticket-buyers losing thousands of dollars this way. After you wire the money,
you never get the tickets…and your money is GONE.
Here are some red flags
for Craigslist scams:
- Buyer is not local;
- Misspellings and grammar
errors in the response;
- Person offering that
Craigslist guarantees a transaction;
- Use of Western Union for
the transaction;
- Seller offers use of an
online escrow service.
For more tips, go to bbb.org or call 1-800-388-2222.

 Citing an effort to increase its ability to help small businesses and “buy local” more often, Metro Louisville announced today that it has added a new vendor portal on the Division of Purchasing’s page of the city website.
Local businesses interested in registering can submit information through the new portal. Louisville Metro agency buyers and Purchasing Division staff will be able to utilize the business information primarily when seeking purchasing opportunities below $20,000. Any purchases above $20,000 require, by state law, a competitive bid process.
To complete the Vendor Interest Form, local business owners should Click Here.

 Speed Up Louisville
ILouisville Metro Government’s OPI2 Innovation Team, PowerUp
Labs and other partners today launched a new web-based application aimed
to increase transparency about Internet service quality in Louisville.
SpeedUpLouisville.com
collects and will share user-generated information about local broadband
service speeds, rates and service quality in our community.
Citizens can visit SpeedUpLouisville.com
from any device to take the free Internet service test. The data provided by
the test and short survey will be stored in a publically available
database, combined with other results, and published to the map and
to SpeedUp Louisville in a form that does not identify
contributors.
This test does not collect
information about personal Internet traffic such as emails, web searches,
or other personally identifiable information.

 Google Fiber
has taken a preparatory
step in its apparent continuing evaluation of whether to install a fiberoptics
network in Metro Louisville that would greatly increase Internet access speeds
and provide to users gigabit downloading capability. Plans were filed this week
with city regulators to develop a series of 11 "communications facilities
huts" around town, each of which could distribute fiber service to more
than 10,000 households.
