A Holiday Message from the Councilman

mulv

As your Councilman, I wish you all  Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year. The Holidays are a great time to be with friends and family. I hope you all experience the Joys of the season.

Holiday Garbage Collection Schedule

There will be no residential garbage, yard waste or recycling collection on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25 or New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1 within in the Urban Services District (former Louisville city limits). Residents who normally have garbage/yard waste/recycling collection on Friday will have service instead on Saturday, December 26 and Saturday, January 2.

Residents normally serviced by private waste haulers should check with those companies for holiday collection schedules.

These centers will be closed Friday, December 25, and Friday, January 1.

  • East District Public Works Yard 595 N. Hubbards Lane
  • Metro Parks Landscaping 9300 Whipps Mill Road
  • Southwest Government Center 7219 Dixie Highway
  • Central Government Center 7201 Outer Loop
  • 636 Meriwether Avenue
  • HAZ BIN Hazardous Waste Facility 7501 Grade Lane. Open normal hours Wednesdays & Saturdays - 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Curbside and Drop-off Christmas Tree Disposal Available

Metro Public Works will provide curbside pickup of Christmas Trees within the Urban Services District (the old City of Louisville boundaries) after the holiday. Beginning Saturday, December 26, residents with City curbside yard waste pickup may set their Christmas trees and greenery out on their regular collection day. Trees must not be in plastic bags.

Drop-off sites will also be available for all Louisville/Jefferson County residents at three locations. Two of the three drop-off sites will also instantly recycle trees in to mulch that will be offered back to citizens for home use.

Those wishing to receive mulch must bring an appropriate container in which to carry it. This mulch performs particularly well for acid-loving plants such as azaleas and rhododendrons. Trees picked up from curbside will also be recycled but not offered as mulch. All lights and ornaments should be removed from trees before they are set out or dropped off.

Residents normally serviced by private waste haulers should check with those companies to see whether and when tree pickup is available.

Christmas tree vendors may recycle their unsold trees on Saturday, December 26 ONLY, and only at the Hubbard’s Lane site.

DROP OFF LOCATIONS

  •  East District Recycling Center, 595 N. Hubbards Lane (Bring containers to take home fresh mulch.)
  • Southwest Government Center, 7219 Dixie Highway (Bring containers to take home fresh mulch.)
  • Waste Reduction Center - 636 Meriwether Avenue (Tree drop-off only. Mulch is not available at this location.)

Historic Cemetery in District 10

hik

Historic Hikes Cemetery lies in the busy Bardstown Road corridor at Hikes Ln. On December 13th The Shelby Chapter of The Sons of the American Revolution held a ceremony to memorialize Edward Jones, a Revolutionary War figure known to have fought with George Rogers Clark. Many descendants and family members attended this dedication and they are working with the local historic preservation office in order to protect this site.

Light Up Schnitzelburg

There was a great turn out for the Light Up Schnitzelburg event this year. Santa and his elves were there to greet the neighbors and wish them Christmas Cheer. All the children helped to decorate the tree located next to Mo's Food mart on Goss Ave.
