As your Councilman, I wish you all Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year. The Holidays are a great time to be with friends and family. I hope you all experience the Joys of the season.
There will be no residential
garbage, yard waste or recycling collection on Christmas Day, Friday, December
25 or New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1 within in the Urban Services District
(former Louisville city limits). Residents who normally have garbage/yard
waste/recycling collection on Friday will have service instead on Saturday,
December 26 and Saturday, January 2.
Residents normally serviced by
private waste haulers should check with those companies for holiday collection
schedules.
These centers will be closed
Friday, December 25, and Friday, January 1.

Metro Public Works will provide curbside pickup of
Christmas Trees within the Urban Services District (the old City of Louisville
boundaries) after the holiday. Beginning Saturday, December 26, residents with
City curbside yard waste pickup may set their Christmas trees and greenery out
on their regular collection day. Trees must not be in plastic bags.
Drop-off sites will also be
available for all Louisville/Jefferson County residents at
three locations. Two of the three drop-off sites will also instantly recycle
trees in to mulch that will be offered back to citizens for home use.
Those wishing to receive mulch
must bring an appropriate container in which to carry it. This mulch performs
particularly well for acid-loving plants such as azaleas and rhododendrons.
Trees picked up from curbside will also be recycled but not offered as mulch.
All lights and ornaments should be removed from trees before they are set out
or dropped off.
Residents normally serviced by

Councilman Mulvihill recently visited VIPS for the Grand Opening of the new schoolhouse that was recently constructed. Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS) empowers families by providing educational excellence to young children with visual impairments in order to build a strong foundation for reaching their highest potential.
Historic Hikes Cemetery lies in the busy Bardstown Road corridor at Hikes Ln. On December 13th The Shelby Chapter of The Sons of the American Revolution held a ceremony to memorialize Edward Jones, a Revolutionary War figure known to have fought with George Rogers Clark. Many descendants and family members attended this dedication and they are working with the local historic preservation office in order to protect this site.

There was a great turn out for the Light Up Schnitzelburg event this year. Santa and his elves were there to greet the neighbors and wish them Christmas Cheer. All the children helped to decorate the tree located next to Mo's Food mart on Goss Ave.
