Buechel Railroad Crossing Gates

Railroad Crossing Sign Image

The anticipated railroad crossing gates are slated to be installed at Buechel Avenue and Crawford Avenue before Christmas.  This intersection has seen several accidents with injuries and fatalities.

“The warnings signals and crossing gates are designed to stop traffic from coming in contact with a moving train.  It is as simple as that.  I know there will be drivers, who despite these additional safety measures, will ignore them,” says Mulvihill.  “Please, Stop, Think, and Be Safe.”

Airport Noise Reduction Resolution

On December 17, the Louisville Metro Council will vote on a resolution in support of state tax credits for qualifying noise reduction measures.  This can include improvements to your home such as insulation, new windows and doors.  Rep. Jim Wayne will introduce a bill in  the next legislative session proposing these tax credits.  Please watch for updates regarding this issue.

New Restaurant on Goss Avenue

Plans have been filed with Louisville Metro Planning and Design for a Craft House Restaurant and Pub at 1030 Goss Avenue.  This establishment is spearheaded by Pat Hagan, owner the Bluegrass Brewing Co.  Plans call for outdoor alcohol sales requiring a conditional use permit.  Once the application for this permit has been filed, we will be updating you on that process.

Abandoned Bikes to be Removed

bike image

An increase in bicycle ridership in Louisville has brought with it an increase in abandoned bicycles, bikes left unattended in one spot for days or even months. Public Works will soon begin removing bikes that are abandoned on sidewalks or other public right of way areas.

Bikes reported as abandoned will first be tagged with a warning notice. If a bike has not been moved within 14 days from the notice date, Public Works will remove it and place it in storage for another period of 14 days under authority of Louisville Ordinance 97.074.

Any bike not claimed within 14 days of being placed in storage by Public Works will be donated to a nonprofit agency or otherwise disposed of. Bikes that appear to be abandoned in the right-of-way should be reported to MetroCall at 311 or 574-5000. Callers are asked to identify the bike with as much detail as possible, including the color of the bike frame, the type of bike and the location.

An abandoned bicycle usually has missing or damaged parts, flat or missing tires, or is in unusable condition. If the bike has been locked to the same location for more than a month, it is likely abandoned and should be removed.

Alley Closure

Please take notice that the alley in the rear of 1002-1018 Ellison Avenue (1001-1019 Charles Street) will be closed and no access provided to adjacent properties from December 14-21 to allow for concrete repairs.
