Construction on Iroquois North Overlook Begins
Project To Be Completed Spring 2016
The long-awaited improvements to Iroquois Park’s scenic North Overlook are on the way, as EZ Construction, Inc. has begun construction at the site. EZ Construction staff began installing a chain-link fence across the road at the top of the hill leading to the overlook today. Erosion controls and tree protection fencing will be installed throughout the project site in preparation for asphalt demolition and grading.
The $1 million project is expected to be completed by spring 2016. Officials with Metro Parks and Recreation said EZ Construction has given a timeline of 180 days until completion once the project begins. Due to safety concerns, the project site will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian access while construction is ongoing. This includes the North Overlook, the Overlook access road, the Sullivan Grove parking area and the Corbly Trail. The Uppill Road gate will be open and closed as normal this summer and fall, and will be closed as it typically is during the winter months.
The project is jointly funded by the Olmsted Parks Conservancy and Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation. The scope includes a rustic stone seat wall with views of downtown Louisville and the Indiana Knobs, enhanced landscaping, improved access to trailheads and a wheelchair-accessible path to the North Overlook.

Jessica Montgomery, Director of Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS), has declared August as License Amnesty Month at LMAS. All late fees will be waived for this month. LMAS staff is now tracking licenses by zip code so they can determine which districts are in compliance with the city ordinances and where LMAS can provide resources to those in need. LMAS is over-capacity at the shelter, standing with over 400 animals to date. Animals without tags or other forms of owner identification may end up at LMAS. We need the citizens of Louisville to be responsible pet owners by vaccinating, microchiping, spay or neutering and licensing pets.
- August is Amnesty Month-all late fees will be waived.
-
Proof of current rabies vaccination is required.
- Renewals can be done online or in person at Manslick or Newburg locations, by mail, or at select Jefferson county veterinary clinics.
-
All dogs (altered or intact) MUST be licensed. Age or breed is irrelevant.
-
All cats (altered or intact) MUST be licensed. Indoor or outdoor!
- For those families with several animals, we offer a discount.
-
Why? Besides being a city ordinance, this is the best way we have of reuniting owners with their pets. Animals that are found running loose with a tag or other forms of identification are given a free and safe ride home without going to the shelter
