Last year, the National Night out campaign involved citizens, law
enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and
local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states. The
program is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention
awareness and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community
partnerships.
The LMPD 3rd Division will host our Southwest National Night Out next week. This community event is also a fun night of entertainment for the whole family. There will be activity booths, an obstacle course and a bouncy booth for kids, face painting, and more! “This is a great way for citizens to meet the
Officers that work hard to keep our Southwest communities safe,” said
Councilman Rick Blackwell. “I hope everyone takes this opportunity to
learn about how to be vigilant and how to make our neighborhoods safer.”
When: August 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Where: Home Depot, 6840 Dixie Hwy.

The purpose of the Our Town program is to support creative placemaking
projects that help to transform communities into lively, beautiful, and
resilient places with the arts at their core.
The city is seeking proposals
from local arts and cultural organizations that wish to apply for the Our Town
grants awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts. Proposals must be
submitted via email to Public Art Administrator Sarah Lindgren (Sarah.Lindgren@louisvilleky.gov)
no later than August 24.
Our Town funding will support local efforts to
enhance quality of life and opportunity for existing residents, increase
creative activity, and create a distinct sense of place. There are two project
areas:
Matching grants for
Arts Engagement, Cultural Planning, and Design Projects will provide
support for projects that represent the distinct character and quality of their
communities. Local government entities must partner with a nonprofit
organization to apply as a partnership. One of the partners must be a cultural
organization
Matching grants for Projects
that Build Knowledge about Creative Placemaking are only available to
arts and design service organizations, and national or regional industry or
university organizations that provide technical assistance to those doing
place-based work. These entities may include housing, transit, community
development, environmental, and economic development organizations who want to
engage in creative placemaking activities.

tributaries brings thousands of volunteers to the riverbanks to collect tons of
trash and debris. River Sweep encompasses the entire length of the river,
from its origin in Pittsburgh, PA to its end in Cairo, IL, including
nearly 3,000 miles of shoreline and many tributaries.
Join us on Saturday, August
29th from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Riverview Park (8202 Greenwood Rd.)! All
participants receive gloves, trash bags and a commemorative T-shirt. For

followed by a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. When the last team returns from play,
we’ll enjoy a Texas Roadhouse lunch and a presentation of trophies and door

only have 14 currently. Please register your players and teams as soon as
possible here. Player names, teams and payment status will appear on our
website until the event. You can join as an individual player or a team of
