Our topic for discussion will be about the HEROIN EPIDEMIC.

You definitely want to be in attendance as we will have important resources for you to take back to your office or share with a friend or another colleague. In fact, you will learn about how YOU can do a "home-test" of your child/grandchild to see if they are doing heroin.

Please forward to your contacts. This is an extremely important discussion and we want as many people in attendance as possible.....

A hot breakfast will be provided from Diane King of Tumbleweed Catering.

The June Meeting will be Thursday, June 25th, and then we will take our summer break.

Louisville Metro Health and Wellness Restructures WIC to Increase Enrollment

To increase participation in WIC and better align participant and staffing needs, Louisville Metro Health and Wellness is proposing to restructure how it identifies and enrolls eligible families and serves participants, including:

  • Identify families eligible for WIC in the hospital
  • Work with Medicaid managed care providers to recruit and serve clients who may not realize they are eligible.
  • Consolidate WIC services into the three most-heavily trafficked centers – L&N, Newburg and Dixie.   A 2014 study by Health and Wellness showed that approximately 90 percent or more of people using the three clinics that are proposed for closing (South Louisville, Middletown and Fairdale) drove a vehicle (or were driven by friends and family) to the site,  as opposed to taking public transit.
  • Move staff to either the new hospital WIC initiative, or to one of the three remaining clinics.
  • Continue WIC program at Family Health Center Park DuValle and UofL Pediatrics.

Riverview Park receives MetroWatch Cameras and Wi -Fi accessibility

Councilman Blackwell announced that Riverview Park (formerly the Greenwood Boat Dock) has entered the 21st Century with technological improvements for safety and connectivity through Wi-Fi internet access for all park-goers.

"Since the initial redevelopment of Riverview Park, I have tried to add some features each year.  I am pleased to announce this year's additions: public Wi-Fi access and real-time cameras,” said Councilman Rick Blackwell (D-12). “ The new cameras will be monitored by Real Time Crime Center as are the cameras at Waterfront Park."

Riverview will become one of two Metro Parks to boast free internet connectivity throughout the community.

"The public Wi-Fi can be used by parents to bring their kids to the park while finishing up some business, students to read an on-line book from the library or Riverport employees to get away from the office and stay connected,” said Blackwell.

Councilman Blackwell spearheaded the effort to bring the technological improvements to the park using Council directed budget funding and District 12 Capital Infrastructure Funds.

Get Rebates on New Lawn Care Equipment

The Metro Air Pollution Control District’s Lawn Care for Cleaner Air program offers rebates up to $100 to residents who buy new electric lawn care equipment. Rebates are higher for buyers who trade in or recycle gasoline powered equipment. Standard rebates up to $50 apply to buyers who do not recycle old equipment. To qualify for a higher rebate, buyers must bring the old equipment to Public Works for recycling.

The old equipment should be taken to one of the recycling centers listed below, before you purchase your new equipment if you are buying from a participating retailer.

Metro Recycling centers will only accept mowers that are drained of all oil and gasoline. For a list of participating dealers, visit louisvilleky.gov/government/lawn-care-cleaner-air/participating-dealers. If you have questions about the rebate program please call 574-5322.

This survey will measure the quality of our service and help us better understand our customers' needs and expectations.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER FRAUD ALERT

There is an outfit called Ameri-fire which are two guys in a Chevy impala, blue with Kentucky plate # 944 RCN going around and “checking: fire extinguishers” in our local businesses.  They are not licensed to do this work.  What they are doing is crossing out previous dates and hand writing 2015 in its place.  The company name of Ameri-fire was found through secretary of state to be inactive and in bad standing.   This occurred in a business on Preston Hwy yesterday at Discount Medical 5616 Preston Hwy.

LMPD is asking anyone who encounters them to make a report ay 574-LMPD (5673) or for non-emergency, police-related matters, call 502-574-7111 or 502-574-2111. .  They were out last two years doing this and the State Fire Marshall's Office is looking for them.  If you will please spread the word. They were all over the city last year and did prey on quite a few minority/foreign businesses in the area.
