Two Companies Honored for Workplace Safety Efforts

Christian County plastics firm, Clark County components manufacturer earn Governor’s Safety and Health Awards

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 8, 2022) — Riken Elastomers Corporation of Hopkinsville and Leggett & Platt Inc. of Winchester are the latest companies to earn recognition from the Kentucky Labor Cabinet for stellar workplace safety records.

Between Jan. 1, 2007, and Dec. 31, 2021, employees at Riken’s Christian County plant logged 979,977 consecutive hours on the job without reporting a workplace injury accident or illness resulting in lost time for the company, according to the cabinet’s Department of Workplace Standards. Leggett & Platt employees logged just over 1 million consecutive hours without a lost-time incident between June 26, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2021, at the Winchester manufacturing facility.

As a result of those accomplishments, Lynn Whitehouse, acting director of the cabinet’s occupational safety and health program (KYSAFE), presented the Governor’s Safety and Health Award to Riken and Leggett & Platt company officials last week.

The award presentations follow the 2022 Governor’s Safety and Health Conference in Bowling Green, where on May 10, Gov. Andy Beshear recognized more than 20 companies for their outstanding dedication to workplace safety.

“Every Kentuckian deserves to make it home safe to his or her family at the end of every workday, and I am extremely proud of both of these companies for putting worker safety first,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “I’m especially proud of all of the employees at Riken and Leggett & Platt who made these awards happen.”

Riken Elastomers Corporation manufactures high-performance plastic compounds primarily for the automotive industry at its Hopkinsville manufacturing facility. Leggett & Platt designs and manufactures innovative products and components used in bedding, furniture, seating, homes, offices, airplanes and automobiles.

The KYSAFE program builds alliances with Kentucky employers to promote worker safety through high-quality education and technical assistance. For more information on the Governor’s Safety and Health Award, click here.
