Boone County Company Recognized for Workplace Safety Record

Crane Composites of Florence captures award for second consecutive year

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 17, 2022) — A Northern Kentucky company known for its fiber-reinforced composite materials has earned its second Governor’s Safety and Health Award.

The Kentucky Labor Cabinet announced that Crane Composites of Florence has captured its second award in as many years after employees logged 637,823 hours on the job without a lost time incident.

“Crane Composites is doing a tremendous job engaging its workforce and garnering a commitment to workplace safety,” Labor Cabinet Secretary Jamie Link said. “The company has shown a considerable amount of success in fostering a safety-first workplace culture that deserves accolades and should not go unnoticed.”

Lynn Whitehouse, acting director of the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health KYSAFE program, presented company officials the award for calendar year 2021 during a ceremony Wednesday at the plant.

Darcie Holloway, employee health and safety manager at the plant, attributes much of the company’s success to employees and managers proactively identifying and eliminating hazards in the workplace, and everyone in the plant looking out for each other.

“Receiving the Kentucky Governor’s Safety and Health Award for a second year in a row is an achievement that all associates at the Florence site are extremely proud of,” Holloway said. “We invest a great deal of time, manpower and money to ensure that our workplace is a safe, productive environment.”

Crane Composites is the world’s leading provider of fiber-reinforced composite materials and delivers innovative products that outperform traditional metals and woods with unsurpassed strength and durability. The Florence facility employs 104 workers.

The Governor’s Safety and Health Award program recognizes Kentucky companies that demonstrate outstanding safety and health performance in the workplace.

Companies may qualify for the award if employees achieve a required number of hours worked without experiencing a lost-time injury or illness incident. The required number of hours needed to qualify varies for each company depending on the number of employees.

The KYSAFE program builds alliances with Kentucky employers to promote worker safety through high-quality education and technical assistance.
