Standards Commissioner Ervin Dimeny visited Adient in Georgetown today to
present a Governor’s Safety and Health Award for the 1,029,749 production hours
worked without a lost-time incident by employees.
“Congratulations
to Adient in Georgetown on earning its second Governor’s Safety and Health
Award,” said Labor Secretary Derrick Ramsey. “This accomplishment of working
over one million hours without a lost-time incident does not occur without the
dedication from everyone in the company to workplace safety. On behalf of
Governor Bevin and the Labor Cabinet, it is my honor to acknowledge this
achievement for the hard-working men and women at Adient.”
Established in 2016, Adient produces and delivers automotive
seating for all vehicle classes and all major original equipment manufacturers.
Adient is the largest global automotive seating supplier with 75,000 employees
operating in 230 manufacturing plants in 33 countries worldwide. Currently,
Adient employs over 700 employees at its Georgetown facility.
“Safety is our most valuable metric with Adient,” said Todd Bruno,
Plant Manager. “The Georgetown facility embraces safety each day. This is most
evident as we recently surpassed one million hours without a lost-time accident
for the second time in the last three years. This is an amazing accomplishment
and further exemplifies our total commitment to a safe workplace.”
State
Sen. Damon Thayer (Georgetown) and State Rep. Phillip Pratt (Georgetown) also
offered praise.
“I am proud to offer my congratulations to the dedicated men and
women at Adient in Georgetown for their drive to provide a safe and healthy
working environment,” said Sen. Thayer. “This award is well-deserved, and I
applaud the company for its continual commitment to the protection and
well-being of its employees."
“Congratulations to Adient on their commitment to worker safety,”
said Rep. Pratt. “Our whole community benefits from companies like Adient which
prioritize a safe and healthy workplace, and as a result make our area a great
place to live.”
The Kentucky Labor Cabinet presents the Governor’s Safety and
Health Award to highlight outstanding safety and health performance in
Kentucky’s workplaces. A business may qualify for the award if its
employees achieve a required number of hours worked without experiencing a
lost-time injury or illness. The required number of hours is dependent upon the
number of employees.
According
to a recent report from the U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Kentucky employers reported the lowest
incident rate for nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses in the state’s
history.
Based on a mathematical calculation that describes the number
of recordable incidents per 100 full-time employees, Kentucky’s rate improved
from 3.7 in 2015 to 3.4 in 2016. This rate has steadily declined since it was
first calculated in 1996, when a rate of 8.4 was reported.
