March is Women's History Month
Each year since 1987,
March has been designated as Women’s History Month in our nation, and it
is a time for all Kentuckians to learn more about the invaluable role

Welcome to the first issue of the Commission Connection newsletter! We are excited to share this with you on the first day of Women’s History Month. This monthly newsletter is another way to better connect with members of the Kentucky Commission on Women (KCW) and other women’s advocates across the Commonwealth.
In this issue we will highlight the service of our former Chair Aloma Dew, and meet our new Chair, Madeline Abramson. You may also read about the events and activities we have been involved with recently, such as First Lady Jane Beshear’s 5th Annual ‘Shop & Share Day’ and unveiling our sixth kiosk at the Mary Breckinridge ARH Hospital in Hyden. We have included some additional news about the eagerly anticipated 2013 Kentucky Women Remembered (KWR) ceremony, Women’s History Month, and a legislative update of bills we are monitoring in the 2013 Kentucky General Assembly.
We expect to fill each issue with news of our partnerships, activities and initiatives. As you peruse this issue, we invite you to let us know what you think and invite you to offer any feedback and suggestions on how to make it better. We will continue to utilize any tool we can to strengthen our connection to you. As our motto reads ... we strengthen Kentucky by strengthening Kentucky women. Enjoy!

this one-day goods drive support the Kentucky Domestic Violence
Association shelters. As in past years, the Kentucky Commission on Women
was a partner in this event and thanks goes to the many volunteers,
