The Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) is seeking advisory board members.
The Kentucky General Assembly authorized the Kentucky School for the Blind to have an advisory board. While the language in KRS 167.035 is permissive and does not require an advisory board to exist, if such a board is established, the advisory board provides advice to the commissioner of education and the KSB administration on how the school can best meet the specialized education and cultural needs of the community of students it serves.
The KSB Advisory Board bylaws define five members who represent the following groups:
- A parent of a currently enrolled student
- A representative of a community business partner engaged with the KSB
- An alumnus
- A local school district or representative from a Kentucky Department of Education Special Education Regional Technical Assistance Center (SERTAC)
- An at-large member from a group or agency that has a service mission and interest in the education of students who are blind or visually impaired
Currently, self-nominations for the KSB Advisory Board are being accepted for:
- A parent of a KSB student
- A representative of a community business partner engaged with KSB
- A school district or SERTAC representative
Self-nominations must be submitted using this KSB advisory board nomination form by Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. ET. Questions may be directed to Shannon Sparkman.
