Question of the Week
Q: Where are the 2026-2027 AKSA Training and Qualification Quiz located?
A: The 2026-2027 Alternate Kentucky Summative Assessment (AKSA) training and associated online qualification quiz are now available. Beginning this year, the AKSA training has been consolidated from two separate training sessions into one. The Administration Guide is currently available for viewing and download.
The AKSA Qualification Quiz is now open in the Online Training System (OTS) and will remain open until Friday, Nov. 6. Training materials will continue to be accessible on the Kentucky Alternate Assessment Combined Resources site.
All required trainings for AKSA Administration and the qualification quiz must be completed before Test Administrators receive testing materials and the AKSA can be administered.

Process for Requesting AKSA Visual Impairment (VI) Materials for Window 1
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) will provide tactilely enhanced supplemental materials (e.g., maps, graphs) for some grades on the AKSA Attainment Tasks (AT) to students who have verified visual impairments in their Individual Education Programs (IEPs). Districts should verify a visual impairment is clearly marked on the current IEP and that the student meets all of Kentucky’s eligibility criteria for taking the alternate assessment as indicated in the current IEP. Once districts have verified the student’s eligibility, districts should complete the Visual Impairment (VI) Order Form. If a district has more than one student, the form provides the opportunity for the district to add more students to the form.
The deadline for all submissions is Friday, Sept. 11, to ensure districts receive these materials in time for Window 1 of the AKSA.
For any additional questions or concerns, please contact Krista Mullins. For questions regarding completing the VI Materials Request Form, please contact dacinfo@education.ky.gov.
HB 257 at a Glance
KDE has developed a new resource, HB 257 at a Glance, to assist districts in understanding the requirements of House Bill (HB) 257 and its impact on Kentucky's assessment and accountability systems beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.
The HB 257 at a Glance document is available on the Accountability and Data Release Resources webpage under the Materials section.
District Assessment Coordinators (DACs) are encouraged to review the resource and share it with appropriate district personnel as they transition to the updated assessment and accountability requirements.
For questions regarding assessment and accountability changes related to HB 257, please contact DACinfo.
