The Kentucky Department of Education’s Division of Early Literacy is proud to announce an expansion in its leadership team with the appointment of Ashley Andriot as one of its State Regional Literacy Directors. Andriot brings 20 years of experience in education and a deep commitment to advancing literacy outcomes for students across the Commonwealth.
She transitioned into this role after two and a half years of service with the division as a State Literacy Coaching Specialist where she partnered with teachers in strengthening instructional practices through coaching. Before joining the department, Andriot served as both a district- and school-level elementary instructional coach and classroom educator.
In her new role as State Regional Literacy Director, Andriot continues to support the statewide implementation of the Read to Succeed Act and Kentucky’s literacy coaching model by partnering with schools across the Greater Louisville area. Her work emphasizes aligning instructional practices with research and developing sustainable systems that support high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction for every student.
During her first year of teaching, Andriot recognized the need to deepen her knowledge of how to effectively teach students to read. This realization led her to pursue advanced study in literacy, earning a master’s degree in education with a reading specialist certification and achieving National Board Certification in literacy. She also completed both the educator and administrator pathways for Learning Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS). Her passion for literacy development has driven her continued work as both a practitioner and leader in the field.
“I am honored to be a part of furthering the work of the Read to Succeed Act,” Andriot shared. “The goal of this act is to ensure all children learn to read well before exiting grade three and that all middle and high school students have the skills necessary to read and comprehend complex materials so that they have every opportunity available to them when they leave our K-12 system. In order for this to happen, our teachers and leaders deserve the professional learning and resources to make this a reality.”
Through her leadership, the Division of Early Literacy continues its commitment to building educator capacity and improving literacy outcomes for students across Kentucky.
Educators soaked up information about the science of reading at the secondary level.
