Revised Kentucky Academic Standards for Reading and Writing adopted into law

(FRANKFORT, KY) – After undergoing a rigorous revision process that began in the fall of 2024, the revised Kentucky Academic Standards for Reading and Writing have been adopted into law.

The process included revisions by Kentucky educators and community members, public input and review by the Kentucky Board of Education before undergoing final legislative review and adoption.

The newly adopted standards are effective in law and shall be implemented in Kentucky public schools beginning in the fall 2026. The KAS for Reading and Writing can be accessed on KYstandards.org. Archived academic standards shall be used until new standards are implemented.

Resources to support effective implementation are available on KYstandards.org and the KYLearningHub.

Please contact the KDE Standards Team with any questions regarding the newly adopted standards or the standards revision process required in Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 158.6453.
