Civics Literacy Webinar: Recording Now Available
Districts and schools can now access the recording of the Civics Literacy Webinar designed to support implementation of KRS 158.141(1), the state Civics Literacy Requirement, on the Civics Literacy Requirement webpage. The recording provides an overview of the three options available to schools and districts for fulfilling the civics literacy requirement as well as information on the updated civics test. Further information is shared about programs that can support implementation.
Specifically, the recording includes support for schools and districts in implementing the .5 credit standalone civics course option. The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) Office of Teaching and Learning strongly encourages this option as a way to fulfill the state civics literacy requirement.
Individuals may reach out to KDE Social Studies Team with questions regarding the three options.
Approved Effective Instructional Leadership Act (EILA) Trainings Available on the PLBB
The Effective Instructional Leadership Act (EILA) supports high-quality instructional leadership across Kentucky by requiring instructional leaders, as defined in KRS 156.101, to complete 21 hours of intensive training each year. EILA approved trainings align with the characteristics of professional development outlined in 704 KAR 3:035.
For instructional leaders needing annual EILA hours, there are approved trainings available on the Kentucky Professional Learning Bulletin Board (PLBB). You can search for both self-paced and in-person options through the catalog.
Districts submit the annual EILA report, including any instructional leader who does not complete the 21 hours, to KDE by August 30 each year through the EILA web app. Refer to KRS 156.101, Section 4 (d) for more information regarding reporting requirements.
For more information or questions regarding EILA contact the KDE EILA team.
