Updated Approved Universal Screening List
The Office of Teaching and Learning is excited to announce recent additions to Kentucky’s Approved Universal Screener List for K-3 numeracy as required in KRS 158.8402. These additional options support districts in the implementation of KyMTSS and high quality mathematics instruction in alignment with the Numeracy Counts Act (HB 162, 2024). Universal screeners play a critical role in identifying student needs early and guiding effective interventions. Bullitt County: Vibrant Learning in Mathematics with HQIR
Bullitt County Public Schools is showing how high-quality instructional resources (HQIRs) can transform math classrooms. By combining thoughtful rollout and layered professional learning, the district is creating clarity for teachers and deeper engagement for students. Numeracy Counts Efforts
More than 139 districts across Kentucky have joined forces in advancing mathematics education through strategic partnerships and innovative programs. These collaborations are driving meaningful improvements in teaching and learning statewide.
Key initiatives include:

Mathematics Achievement Fund (MAF) Coaching Grant – Providing targeted elementary math coaching support to teachers and increasing access to grade-level, standards-aligned mathematics instruction.

Kentucky Center for Mathematics Numeracy Counts Academy (KCMNCA) – Equipping teachers with research-based strategies to build strong numeracy foundations.

AdvanceKentucky Access to Algebra – Expanding opportunities for students to succeed in algebra and beyond.

EPIC Numeracy Alliance – Fostering collaboration among educators to share best practices and resources.

PIMSER Principals’ Numeracy Counts Administrator Academy (PNCAA)  – Supporting school leaders in creating systems that prioritize mathematics achievement.

K-3 HQIR Numeracy Grant - Providing funding to adopt a HQIR or deliver curriculum-based professional learning.
Together, these efforts reflect a shared commitment across the Commonwealth to ensuring all Kentucky students have access to high-quality grade-level math instruction.
