 Revised Health Education and Physical Education Standards adopted into law
The Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Health Education and the KAS for Physical Education have been adopted into law, in accordance with Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 158.6453.
The standards were updated through a formal review process that included educator and public input, Kentucky Board of Education approval and final legislative adoption. The revised standards are now effective in law and will be implemented in classrooms no later than the 2026-2027 school year. Archived standards remain in use until then.
To access the new standards, visit KYstandards.org. For more information about the standards revision process, please visit the Kentucky Academic Standards Revision Process webpage.
New Resource Available! Curriculum Implementation Monitoring Toolkit
As districts across Kentucky work to implement high-quality instructional resources (HQIRs), they have recognized a need to measure the effectiveness of their implementation to ensure the HQIR positively impacts the student experience and outcomes.
In response to this need, the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) created the Curriculum Implementation Monitoring Toolkit that defines the key aspects of an implementation “ecosystem” critical to maximizing the impact of an HQIR. The toolkit includes:
- Specific tools for monitoring each of the six aspects;
- Recommendations for use of each tool; and
- Resources to support analyzing the data across a school year to inform progress, make adjustments and determine next steps.
