KDE to host 2025 Continuous Improvement Summit in Lexington this September

(LEXINGTON, KY) – The Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE) Office of Continuous Improvement and Support and Cognia invite educators and district leaders to the annual Continuous Improvement Summit on Sept. 22-23 at the Central Bank Center in Lexington.

During this two-day event, participants will join thousands of educators across the Commonwealth to enhance their professional learning, make new connections and build upon existing relationships with peers across Kentucky, and hear up-to-date information from KDE leaders, including an assessment and accountability update. Be among the first to learn more about updates to the comprehensive improvement planning templates impacting schools and districts. Sessions are designed for elementary and secondary educators, administrators and central office staff with a focus on continuous improvement at both the district and school levels.

This year’s keynote speaker is Missy Testerman, the 2024 National Teacher of the Year. She teaches English as a second language to students from kindergarten through 8th grade and is a passionate advocate for her students, their families and fellow teachers. A Tennessee native and first-generation college graduate, Testerman takes pride in her former students’ success and is dedicated to ensuring the next generation receives a broadened education while living in a rural setting. She emphasizes the importance of teachers holding high expectations for all students from the moment they step into the classroom.

Sessions during the Continuous Improvement Summit will include a variety of topics ranging from a tour of KDE's early literacy resources, leveraging instructional rounds to design authentic teacher-driven professional learning, multi-tiered systems of supports in high schools, best practices and innovations in elevating non-traditional instruction and other timely topics. Participants also will have an opportunity to learn from this year’s 13 Best Practice winners.

In 2013, KDE launched the Best Practices and Sustainability website, which was designed to serve as a clearinghouse to promote practices that motivate, engage and provide measurable results in student learning, achievement and school/district processes. The site supports teachers, administrators, district personnel and any other education advocates seeking strategies that have been proven successful in a variety of settings. KDE has identified effective practices that improve student performance and promotes practices for educators with the goal of improving educational opportunities for all children. Any Kentucky teacher, school or district may submit a best practice to KDE for consideration to be a Best Practice award recipient.

Whether you’re looking to enhance your professional learning, strengthen existing relationships or tackle unique challenges with fresh strategies, this conference is for you. Don’t miss this opportunity to spark new ideas, gain insights from KDE leaders and join Kentucky’s continuous improvement movement!
