Get Ready for WIDA ACCESS and WIDA Screener Online Updates in June
DRC will release annual technology updates for WIDA ACCESS and WIDA Screener Online on the evening of June 26. WIDA wants to highlight two changes to be aware of on Friday, June 27:
- Technology Coordinators (TCs) may once again enable automatic updates for the DRC INSIGHT Windows application. This change will allow any user to update DRC INSIGHT when prompted by the application. If no action is taken, only users with Admin rights may update DRC INSIGHT for Windows.
- The DRC INSIGHT Chromebook application will be released as a Progressive Web Application (PWA). TCs will be required to uninstall the current DRC INSIGHT Secure App version 15 from all Chrome devices before installing the PWA version of DRC INSIGHT. These steps must be completed by Thursday, July 31, to avoid any disruption to testing.
WIDA shared more information about these changes in the May 20 WIDA AMS and DRC Technical Enhancements for 2025-2026 assessment webinar. If district or school staff missed the webinar, a recording is available on the Webinars page in the WIDA Secure Portal. Detailed software installation and configuration instructions will be available on Friday, June 27, in the DRC INSIGHT Technology User Guide in WIDA AMS.

Reminder: K Screen 2025-2026 Staff File Submission Deadline July 8
The K Screen Staff File Editor is the web tool used by districts to submit staff access information for the BRIGANCE® Online Management System (OMS). This web-based application allows districts to identify individuals who require Administrator or Data Entry access to support the annual K Screen implementation. The Office of Assessment and Accountability (OAA) uses submitted data to establish user accounts prior to the screening window, ensuring efficient and secure access.
To begin, open the K Screen Staff File Editor in a web browser. A sign-in to a district Google account is required. From the dropdown menu, select the district and click “Load Staff” to display the current list of staff. A notice will appear with guidance on which staff roles should be included. After reviewing the notice, click “I Understand” to continue.
The table will display editable fields for each listed user. Update entries as needed by entering the district email address (must end in @district.kyschools.us), first and last name, selecting the appropriate school from the dropdown menu, and choosing the role (Administrator or Data Entry). To add a staff member, click “Add New Row.” New entries will appear at the bottom of the table. Complete all required fields and assign the appropriate school and role. To delete a user, click “Delete” and confirm the action when prompted.
When all updates are complete, click “Submit Changes” at the bottom of the table. A confirmation message will appear when the submission has been successfully processed.
All updates must be submitted by Tuesday, July 8, at the close of business. Meeting this deadline is essential for inclusion in KDE’s automatic user account setup for BRIGANCE OMS. As stated in the K Screen Implementation Guide, any staff not submitted by the deadline must be manually added by the District Assessment Coordinator (DAC) after the statewide setup is finalized.
Please note: Kindergarten teachers should not be entered in the Staff File. Teacher accounts are created automatically through Infinite Campus. To ensure successful creation, primary homerooms must be scheduled, and at least one new kindergarten student must be enrolled in each homeroom.

Learn About the Brand-New WIDA Language Charts
The WIDA Language Charts are a brand-new resource that can help educators understand and communicate the expectations of revised ACCESS for ELLs (WIDA ACCESS), which will be used in the 2025-2026 WIDA school year. The charts connect WIDA ACCESS to the WIDA ELD Standards Framework, 2020 Edition and make the Proficiency Level Descriptors clearer, more actionable and directly connected to classroom instruction. Learn how to use the charts in the article.

New Survey Supports the Understanding of Communication Needs of MLs with Significant Cognitive Disabilities
The brand-new Tell Us About Your Child Survey is a questionnaire that educators can give to families or caregivers of Multilingual Learners (MLs) with the most significant cognitive disabilities to better understand a student's language and communication needs. In the survey, families or caregivers will answer questions about a student’s method of communication and language, their ability to understand communication and the preferred communication supports.

Answering Questions on MLs, Literacy and the Science of Reading
Educators working with MLs often ask: How does the science of reading apply to multilingual learners? In turn, how does the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework address the science of reading? How does WIDA’s work intersect with reading instruction? This two-part series explores these questions.
