Superintendents hear updates on new teacher survey during webcast

(FRANKFORT, KY) – Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) officials discussed the Kentucky Educator Mentorship Program and a survey that will collect details on the 2024-2025 implementation during the Superintendents Webcast on May 13.

KRS 161.031 established the Kentucky Educator Mentorship Program and requires the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) to develop standards and guidance for school districts to implement new teacher induction programs. The EPSB is also required to submit an annual report to the Legislative Research Commission on how the Kentucky Educator Mentorship Program is being implemented.

To fulfill the requirements, KDE has created a survey that includes three components. A district representative will submit information about the district’s new teacher program, including the types of training offered and details about how the program is managed and funded. New teachers and mentors will be asked about their experiences with the district’s mentoring program and the effectiveness of the new teacher’s educator preparation program.

The survey will close Sept. 15 and a report is due to the Legislative Research Commission by Oct. 1.

Superintendents also heard updates on:

  • School health reporting, including new rules preventing school nurses and staff from administering any medication to a child without a medical provider’s order and a parent/guardian’s signature; and
  • Legislative guidance that will be coming from KDE later this month on the KDE’s Legislative Guidance webpage.
