The regional educational cooperatives, in partnership with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), are hosting in-person meetings in March for district and school leaders to explore new resources available to support effective implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) with emphasis on Tier 1 curriculum anchored in a high-quality instructional resource (HQIR).
Feedback sought on Kentucky Social Studies Standards
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is seeking feedback on the current Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies.
KRS 158.6453 calls for KDE to implement a process for reviewing all academic standards and aligned assessments beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. The schedule calls for one or two content areas to be reviewed each year, and every six years after that on a rotating basis.
Standards outline what students are expected to learn in each grade to successfully transition to the next level of learning. The curriculum or methods and resources used to teach the standards is a separate issue and decided at the local level.
To provide feedback on the social studies standards, please use this survey. Due to the amount of text within the survey, it is recommended that surveys be completed on a full-size computer or laptop screen. Participants are provided with the opportunity to give feedback on all standards or self-selected areas of interest. Feedback on the current social studies standards will be collected by American Institute for Research through April 2.
Now Accepting Applications for the RISE Science Leadership Academy
The Results-driven Initiatives for Science Education (RISE) Science Leadership Academy, hosted by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) science consultants, aims to cultivate a network of teacher leaders who engage in meaningful, curriculum-based professional learning to enhance science instruction across Kentucky. By leveraging high-quality instructional resources (HQIR) and modeling Curriculum-Based Professional Learning (CBPL), RISE will empower educators to implement three-dimensional, inquiry-based science teaching effectively.
Voices from the Field – Franklin County
The Kentucky Department of Education’s Office of Teaching and Learning Division of Early Literacy (DEL) hosts virtual office hours each month with the last 30 minutes reserved for a Kentucky public school district to share their experiences around evidence-based early literacy instruction and high-quality instructional resource (HQIR) implementation.
In February, Franklin County leaders shared how they used the Model Curriculum Framework to guide their adoption and implementation of the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum. View the recording to hear their story.
