Resource Spotlight! Support HQIR Implementation with the Lesson Unit Internalization Protocol
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) Office of Teaching and Learning developed the Curriculum-Based Professional Learning Guidance Document to support districts in effective implementation of a strong local curriculum anchored in high-quality instructional resources (HQIRs). The guidance document includes multiple tools to help ensure maximum impact of the district-adopted HQIRs on the student experience and outcomes.

In the new professional learning module series, Vibrant Learning Experiences in Science and Social Studies, participants will explore how teaching elementary science and social studies anchored in a high-quality instructional resource for reading and writing can provide deeper learning opportunities for students in an authentic context. These module sessions will demonstrate the importance of going beyond reading about science and social studies topics to “doing” science and social studies in the classroom.

Unlock the power of anchoring phenomena to create meaningful, three-dimensional science instruction aligned to the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Science! This professional learning module is designed for use in district, school, or department-level professional learning sessions.
By incorporating an open educational resource, this professional learning module provides participants with a learning experience symmetrical to the classroom. The evidence-based resources included in this module will assist educators in creating authentic, relevant, phenomenon-based learning opportunities for students.
