Question of the Week
Q: Has the date for Quality Control Day been confirmed?
A: Yes. Quality Control (QC) Day will occur on Sept. 19 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. ET. The purpose of QC Day is for District Assessment Coordinators (DACs) to identify systemic issues in accountability data prior to public release. Changes will not be made to individual student data during QC Day. Individual student data changes were made during the Fall QC Data Review from Aug. 7-14.
In preparation for QC Day, DACs will need to download and complete the QC Day Nondisclosure Form, then save it electronically. Saved nondisclosures should be uploaded to the DAC Nondisclosure Submission Google Form by the close of business on Wednesday, Sept. 18. A nondisclosure must be submitted via the Google form to have access to data on QC Day.
DACs should review the following resources prior to QC Day:
Additionally, DACs should login to the KDE Secure Web Application to complete the following tasks:
- Access Data Review in Student Data Review and Rosters (SDRR). Click on the closed button to download Student Listing and Change Listing, Cohort and Postsecondary Readiness Scores.
- Access Student Data Detail to get to the zip file of the data for QC Day. (This task cannot be completed until QC Day.)
Please note: DACs should contact the district Web Apps Admin Point of Contact (WAAPOC) for assistance with logging in to the KDE Secure Web Application.
2024 KSA Released Items Now Available
Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) released items from spring 2024 are now available at KY | Released Items (mypearsonsupport.com). The 2024 release includes items for Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Editing and Mechanics and On-Demand Writing for the tested grades.
Items are presented in a test booklet format which includes passages and prompts/questions. Following the questions, item performance data is provided including an answer key and the associated content standard, along with rubrics and anchor sets (for short answer and extended response questions).
As required by KRS 158.6453, assessment reports provided to the school districts and schools shall include an electronic copy of an operational subset of test items from each assessment administered to their students and the results for each of those test items by student and by school.
In compliance with statute, statistical information by student and by school is available in PearsonAccessnext (PAN). Released items data files can be accessed by clicking on Spring 2024 Summative > Reports > Published Reports. DACs should communicate with their superintendents and school principals that this information is available. Although not statutorily required, district level data are also included.
These KSA data provide evidence of student learning that helps to inform decision-making related to teaching and learning. Along with other data at the school level, these data can provide insight into student outcomes and provide a clearer picture of school performance.
For questions or assistance accessing 2024 KSA Released Items, please contact Melissa Chandler.

ACT Fall 2024 Optional Senior State Administration – Non-Test Activities for the ACT and Parental Consent Policy Reminder
The delivered test materials will include personalized non-test instructions documents for each examinee and copies of the Taking the ACT booklets, materials which students need to conduct the non-test activities in MyACT. When students establish a MyACT account and have the account linked to this fall’s administration, they will be able to utilize free test preparation resources. Students will also be notified via email when their score is available.
Additionally, schools will have access to a more comprehensive set of information when results are available that will help shape and influence curriculum to ensure examinees are taking or plan to take courses that will ensure they are prepared for success after high school. School testing staff should make arrangements to host in-school sessions to conduct the non-test activities. Schools should host separate sessions for students with and without parental consent. Step 4 of the ACT-hosted testing website contains helpful resources about completing the non-test activities in MyACT.
The Office of Assessment and Accountability (OAA) has worked with the U.S. Education Department (USED) to ensure that the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and Kentucky school districts are fully compliant with federal privacy laws concerning non‐test information provided to third parties when administering the Kentucky state administration of the ACT to students.
The Parental Consent Form is required for all students under the age of 18. The form is embedded into the Parental Consent Guidance. If consent is not obtained from a parent and/or guardian, the student does not have permission to opt into the Educational Opportunity Service (EOS) system and send scores to colleges. The form does not hinder a student from taking the assessment.
If you have any questions, please contact Christen Roseberry
ACT State Testing Office Hour - Sept. 24, 2024
OAA and ACT will host an office hour session on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. ET, which will focus on highlighting the remaining test preparation activities that staff should consider completing as the Window 1 test date nears. The session will be hosted via a Microsoft Teams meeting. While the content will be focused on highlighting those activities, KDE and ACT encourage testing staff to attend and ask any questions they may have at this time. Please be sure to provide testing staff with this Microsoft Teams Link for the session. Attendees will not have to register for office hours specifically but will want to mark time on calendars to avoid any scheduling conflicts.
If you have any questions, please contact Christen Roseberry.
