Educator LETRS Spotlight
With registration now open for Cohort 3 of the Kentucky Reading Academies LETRS Professional Learning, the Division of Early Literacy is highlighting educators who are currently participating to share the impact the program has had on their teaching and students’ learning.
Darla Clark, first grade teacher at Goodridge Elementary School in Boone County, participated in the LETRS for Educators professional learning opportunity.
“I have been teaching first grade for over 20 years. During this time I have had many professional development opportunities that focused on teaching literacy. However, none have been more impactful on my teaching or on my student learning than LETRS. From learning how the reading brain works to assessing and analyzing the correct data to research-based strategies, my teaching has transformed. I was able to take what I learned in each LETRS session/unit and immediately apply it to my classroom. Not only has my whole class instruction improved but also my small group instruction. With the correct assessments, I have been able to fill in the gaps during Tier 2 instruction by targeting the subskills of reading which lay the foundation for reading comprehension. LETRS has provided me with a current, structured, and comprehensive framework for teaching literacy skills.”
