Educator LETRS Spotlight
With registration now open for Cohort 3 of the Kentucky Reading Academies LETRS Professional Learning, the Division of Early Literacy is highlighting educators who are currently participating to share the impact the program has had on their teaching and students’ learning.
Stephanie Hargrove, Interventionist at Sturgis Elementary School in Union County, participated in the LETRS for Educators professional learning opportunity.
“LETRS provided me with a deep understanding of the cognitive processes involved in reading and spelling. It explained the science behind phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This knowledge equipped me to make more informed instructional decisions based on research-backed methods. I am more confident and effective in my literacy instruction. I can tailor my teaching to meet individual student needs more precisely.”
- Stephanie Hargrove, Sturgis Elementary School, Union County, Interventionist

![Photo of Conference Attendees](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/KYDE/2024/06/9705164/conference-panorama_original.jpg) Nearly 1,500 Kentucky K–12 public educators and administrators attended the Kentucky Reads to Succeed Summer Conference at the Central Bank Center in Lexington on June 20 to learn more about evidence-based literacy practices for meeting the diverse needs of student readers.
The conference kicked off with keynote speaker Emily Hanford, an education journalist, sharing her story. Hanford is known for her work as a journalist and as the host of the Sold a Story podcast. Attendees also heard from Chief Academic Officer, Micki Ray; Interim Commissioner of Education, Robin Fields Kinney, and more. Sessions included a variety of topics from learning about structured literacy practices, when and how to create a reading improvement plan and the power of knowledge-building high-quality instructional resources.
The Office of Teaching and Learning and the Division of Early Literacy would like to thank State Regional Literacy Director Tara Griffith and her team along with everyone who helped plan and prepare for this inaugural conference as well as those who participated in the day, making it a success.
