School-Based Decision Making Council (SBDM) Closeout
Several of Kentucky’s school-based decision making councils end their terms on June 30. As council terms are wrapping up and preparing for those council members whose terms begin July 1, it might be helpful to take some time during the last meeting to reflect broadly on the 2023-2024 council’s work.
What policies, decisions and discussions went well? What are some aspects that still need improvement? What is left to accomplish in the next council’s term? You can use these sample questions and their responses as a tool to assist with the continuous improvement of the council’s work

KDE to Offer Summer SBDM Training for Experienced Members
KDE staff will be hosting a virtual training for experienced councilmember on the Council’s Role with Continuous Improvement from 9:30 to 11 a.m. ET on June 12-13. Members will have to participate on both days to obtain their certificate.
During the training, council members will learn about the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan and their role in developing the school’s plan. KDE recommends, however, that if experienced council members have taken this course previously that they participate in a different training course to expand their knowledge regarding their roles and responsibilities as a council member.
New Coordinator Training
If you are a new coordinator, the new SBDM Coordinator training will take place on June 17 at 10 a.m. ET. If you attended the one in May, you do not need to attend, as the same material will be presented at both sessions.
Please register for the training through the SBDM New Coordinator Training form.
