Moonshot and Vibrant Learning Experiences Definition Approved
Thank you so much to all those members who were able to join the recent call and participate in the vote on the council’s moonshot and the definition of vibrant learning experiences (VLE). Their engagement and commitment to this process is truly appreciated.
We are thrilled to announce that both motions passed. No discussion followed the motion to approve the moonshot. All 31 members present voted yes to approve it.
Moonshot:
To build a prosperous Kentucky, we will launch an accountability system that is meaningful and useful to all our learners.
There was brief discussion concerning two words in the VLE definition. First was the word “joyful.” Several members concurred that they would prefer a word such as “positive” in place of “joyful.”
One member questioned what was meant by “products.” Several members of the VLE committee responded that a product would be anything produced by the student. The voting took place and all 31 members present voted yes to approve the definition.
VLE Definition:
"Learning that matters to students."
In partnership with families and communities, students are agents of their own learning, engaged in relevant, authentic and joyful learning opportunities. Vibrant learning honors students' cultural wealth, gifts and interests. Vibrant learning culminates in the application of knowledge and skills demonstrated through personalized products.
The member's contributions and support are invaluable to the success of the Kentucky United We Learn Council.
Accelerating Innovation Committee
The Kentucky United We Learn Council’s Accelerating Innovation (AI) Committee met virtually on Jan. 8.
Members heard details of the current postsecondary readiness indicator. They learned about vibrant learning experiences and considered concrete examples that students are experiencing. Participants generated ideas on possible menu options that would indicate deeper, more vibrant learning.
The next AI committee meeting is scheduled for Feb. 5.
