Resource to Support Educators in Modifying Assessment Tasks to Ensure Three Dimensionality: Three-Dimensional Tasks Module
With the recent release of the Kentucky School Report Card data, many schools are likely evaluating their classroom level assessments for the rigor and alignment to the Kentucky Academic Standards required to prepare students to reach proficiency on the Kentucky Summative Assessment.
The three-dimensional task module is designed to provide educators with tools to deepen understanding of three-dimensionality through the analysis and development of tasks used for instruction and assessment of the Kentucky Academic Standards for Science.
Participants first clarify beliefs about three-dimensional performances and utilize screening tools to analyze tasks, looking at key components. This module also provides guidance for educators to develop three-dimensional classroom assessments, as well as evaluating and modifying the assessments they are currently using.
In addition, the Three-Dimensional Task Modification resource contains six grade-level examples of how a task, analyzed using the task screener, can be modified to meet an intended purpose. Each sample consists of these four components: The original task; the task screener used to inform the modifications made; the rationale for changes made to the task; and the modified task with intended purpose and alignment.
A Facilitator’s Guide, PowerPoint slides, At a Glance and Task Modification Samples are available on the Science Professional Learning Modules webpage.
