Question of the Week
Q: Are the assessment cut scores for the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) and the Alternative Kentucky Summative Assessment (AKSA) available?
The cut scores for the 2022-2023 KSA have not changed. The scores which determine novice, apprentice, proficient, and distinguished in reading, mathematics, social studies, editing and mechanics, and writing for KSA were adopted in 2022 and validated in June 2023 by Kentucky teachers. There are no new cut scores for KSA.
The AKSA scores are transitioning from raw scores (reported as the number of items/questions the student answered correctly) to scale scores (the total number of correct answers converted to a consistent, standardized scale). For additional details on transitioning AKSA raw scores to scale scores, please review the 2023-2024 AKSA BTS.

ACT Fall 2023 State Senior (Optional) Administration: Request Accommodations Deadline Approaching
If initial requests or associations of pin for ACT-authorized accommodations and supports have not been completed, ACT and OAA strongly encourage schools and districts to submit requests in the Test Accessibility and Accommodations (TAA) system prior to the deadline. This will help ensure that testing staff has ample time to provide ACT with any additional information and documentation that may be needed to secure the authorized accommodations and supports. The deadline to complete this task is Sept. 1. ACT will not authorize accommodations or English learner supports for your Kentucky testing event if the request is submitted after this deadline unless the request qualifies for an exception (e.g., new student move into school/district, new diagnosis, etc.).
ACT Fall 2023 State Senior (Optional) Administration: Verify Enrollment Deadline Approaching
ACT and OAA strongly encourage schools and districts to verify that the list of students enrolled is accurate in PearsonAccessnext (PAN) by August 25. On that date, ACT will use the student information in PAN to produce barcode labels and personalized non-test instructions. It is important to keep accurate enrollment information in PAN as enrollment information will also influence what is printed and shipped to schools prior to testing.
Redesigned ACCESS Training Courses Coming Sept. 1
World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) and Office of Assessment and Accountability (OAA) communicated with school and district staff that WIDA needed to remove access to three of our assessment training courses for the summer while making some updates related to WIDA AMS and the redesigned WIDA Alternate ACCESS. On September 1, WIDA has some new and exciting changes ready for school and district staff administering the assessments.
-
The Online ACCESS for ELLs: Administration and Paper ACCESS for ELLs: Administration courses have undergone a complete redesign and will now be more user friendly and accessible.
-
WIDA has aligned the courses with best practices for adult learners, so that school and district test administrators have more control over the learning.
-
The refreshed design includes a greater variety of interactions, more engaging content, streamlined course navigation, and will take less time to complete.
-
To support the redesigned Alternate ACCESS, WIDA significantly revised the WIDA Alternate ACCESS: Administration and Scoring training course.
WIDA made the content more engaging and accessible and our service dog, Candoo, guides you through the learning process.
Wondering about certifications:
-
All WIDA Alternate ACCESS test administrators will need to certify annually after the course launches on Sept. 1, to be ready to administer the redesigned assessment.
-
All WIDA ACCESS Online or Paper test administrators will need to recertify annually.
