Welcome Back!
The Office of Assessment and Accountability hopes the 2023-2024 school year is off to a successful start! There are several Alternate Kentucky Summative Assessment (AKSA) items due soon that require attention. Please see below for information on completing these tasks.
For additional assistance, feel free to email, Krista Mullins with AKSA questions, Christen Roseberry with accommodations questions, or Sherri Craig with questions regarding Career Work Experience Certification (CWEC) or Employability Skills Attainment Record (ESAR).
The Attainment Task (AT) trainings will be released and posted to our website on Monday, August 28th. Look for additional information in upcoming Monday DAC Emails.
Visual Impairment (VI) Materials Request
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) will provide tactically enhanced supplemental materials (e.g., maps, graphs) for some grades on the Alternate Kentucky Summative Assessment (AKSA) Attainment Tasks (AT) to students who have visual impairments. KDE must verify that the student has VI marked on their IEP. If a student qualifies for these materials, please complete the following tasks: Verify a visual impairment has been clearly marked in the current IEP and the student is identified as participating in Kentucky’s Alternate Assessment. Once completed move to the next step.
-
Locate and download your District Spreadsheet using this link: Window 1 VI Orders
-
Open the Google Sheet
-
Select File>Download>Microsoft Excel
-
Edit the spreadsheet with your district’s data
-
Save updated spreadsheets as “DistrictName_Window1.XLSX”
-
Submit a copy to this Google Form by Sept. 6
Note: Only one list containing all students who qualify for this accommodation should be provided per district.
All submissions must be made no later than Wednesday, Sept. 6, to receive these VI materials for the first Alternate Kentucky Summative Assessment Attainment Task window. Districts who submit late information or do not follow the above instructions may not receive these materials for Test Window 1 (Nov. 13 – Dec. 15) on time. For any additional questions or concerns please contact Krista Mullins or by phone at (502) 564-4394. An email was sent out on Friday, August 18 with a direct link to your district’s spreadsheet and directions on saving and submitting the spreadsheet via Google Form. Email submissions will not be accepted. If your district does not need any VI materials, please complete the Google Form.
Kentucky Alternate Assessment – CWEC Training / Quiz Opens
The Career Work Experience Certification (CWEC) qualified CWEC administrator training and quiz opens in the Online Training System (OTS) Sept. 8, 2023. Please visit the Kentucky Alternate Assessment Program (KAAP) website for access to the CWEC training and quiz. Districts and schools should continue to maintain supporting evidence for the Employability Skills Attainment Record (ESAR) and CWEC in the Career Ready Alternate Assessment Folder (CRAAF). Refer to the Working with Exceptional Children in CTE web page on the KDE website for additional resources, including the CWEC Administration Guide and District CWEC Checklist. The updated 2023-24 ESAR Administration Guide, training and qualified ESAR quiz will be available in October. More details will be forthcoming. The CWEC and ESAR trainings and quizzes are scheduled to close Dec. 22, 2023. The Career Readiness Database (CRD) is scheduled to officially open Nov. 13, 2023. The CRD is used for score entry for the ESAR and status of completion or attainment entry for the CWEC. The CRD will close May 31, 2024.
For any questions regarding the career readiness opportunities for students in an alternate high school diploma course of study or alternate assessment, please contact Sherri Craig in the Office of Career and Technical Education.
