Question of the Week
Q: When will the 2023 Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) Testing Items and Times document be available?
A: The 2023 KSA Testing Items and Times document has been finalized and is accessible on the KSA webpage under Important Resources for Spring 2022-2023 Testing. This document will be reviewed along with additional KSA details in the upcoming Feb DAC training videos set to be released in the Jan 30 Monday DAC email.
2023 Quality of School Climate and Safety Survey Forms Available
The Quality of School Climate and Safety Survey, to be administered during the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) window, contains two forms: Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-High School. Each form contains 27 statements for which students are prompted to respond whether they agree, strongly agree, disagree or strongly disagree.
The 2023 Quality of School Climate and Safety Survey has been updated to remove supplemental Opportunity to Learn questions. Having undergone psychometric analysis, all other items remain the same.
The survey is modified, and the number of items reduced, for students who participate in the Kentucky Alternate Assessment. Those students will take the survey during the Alternate KSA Window 2.
Survey question forms are available on the KDE website on the Quality of School Climate and Safety page.
Administration Code Guidance for the Quality of School Climate and Safety Survey
The survey questions are not considered secure test items; however, the survey is a state-required assessment included in accountability and student responses are confidential. Therefore, school staff and test administrators should abide by the Administration Code regulation in regard to the published survey questions and the operational survey administered during the KSA window.
Teachers may review the survey with students in advance of the test, but only for the purpose of ensuring students understand the questions. School staff should not administer the survey outside the TestNav test session during the KSA window, nor should students be encouraged to provide any specific responses to the questions.
During the state administration, test administrators should not read the survey questions to a classroom of students or individual students who do not qualify for accommodations. Only students receiving a reader accommodation can have the questions read by a trained human reader.
ACT Spring 2023 Junior Administration – Complete Online Site Readiness for Online Testing
The deadline for technical and testing staff to complete work to verify the local network and devices that will be used for assessments this spring can be configured to conduct a successful online administration is Wednesday, Jan. 25. Testing staff can find additional documentation and resources, including training tutorials, embedded in step 2 of the ACT hosted website. Once testing staff has verified that the local network and devices used for testing are configured to deliver the ACT online successfully this spring, the devices need to be frozen to ensure additional updates are not automatically accepted so that, when it comes time to test, the devices have the appropriate version of operating system and system configuration. If you have any questions, please contact Shara Savage.
