Question of the Week
Q: What should a district or school do if students are not showing up in the BRIGANCE OMS?
A: As students enroll and are assigned in IC to a homeroom with the required homeroom code, the student data should automatically populate into the Brigance OMS during the weekly sync between the OMS and IC, as long as data have been accurately and correctly entered in IC. District staff can usually expect to see updates within two weeks.
If new students are not showing up after two weeks, check that everything is entered correctly in the IC. There is no way for the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) or district staff to manually add students into the Brigance OMS.
Please consult Appendix M of the K Screen Implementation Guide to troubleshoot problems in IC before contacting Curriculum Associate’s customer support. If everything is correct in IC, the next weekly refresh should take care of everything.
Please contact Lisa Jett with any questions or concerns with the BRIGANCE OMS system.
BRIGANCE OMS and Infinite Campus File Error
Last week, a file error that disrupted the transmission of data from Infinite Campus to the BRIGANCE Online Management system was discovered. Once found, the error was quickly assessed and resolved allowing the affected files to be uploaded into OMS in this week’s data upload. Please contact Lisa Jett with any questions or concerns you may have.
ACT Fall 2022 Senior Administration Online Testing Site Readiness Activities
The deadline to complete online testing site readiness activities, including conducting a mock administration, is Friday, Aug. 31. Please navigate to step 2 of the ACT-hosted website to obtain additional information and resources in verifying site readiness. While the site readiness activities can be conducted leading up to the test administration windows, ACT encourages you to complete the work now to ensure your network and devices can support online testing. After the devices have been configured, it is essential to lock down all devices to prevent automatic computer updates or application auto-launching, which may negatively impact online testing. Please complete the task of freezing the devices used for testing no later than Friday, Aug. 31. ACT will email school and district testing staff next Thursday, Aug.25, with additional information about completing the site readiness activities. Testing staff is encouraged to share this information with school technology coordinators. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Shara Savage.

Participate in an ACCESS for ELLs Event
Every year, the WIDA community is asked to participate in events and activities that help review and refresh the assessment tools.
The ACCESS for ELLs assessments are taken by a diverse population of students speaking many languages: students in big cities and in rural areas, students new to the United States, and students born here. World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) and the test development partners work hard to create an assessment that:
- Reflects the diversity of multilingual learners
- Positively portrays students with a range of backgrounds
- Carefully avoids topics or situations that may evoke a negative reaction
While WIDA works to do these things throughout test development via events such as bias, sensitivity and content reviews, classroom observations, surveys, expert panels, and field testing, WIDA knows that our perspective is by nature incomplete. For this reason, WIDA invites educators to participate in the review of test content in development. WIDA values the fresh eyes, unique perspectives and range of experiences that educators bring to items, and WIDA revises test items based on this feedback from the field.
If educators would like to contribute to WIDA test development work, please visit the Building a WIDA Assessment page to learn more and apply.
