Apply by July 29! Creating Collaborative Civic Spaces: A Workshop for K-12 Teachers
The goal of this workshop is to support participants in creating collaborative civic spaces in their classrooms to enable effective communication among students. Collaborative civic spaces are safe places where students can collaborate on civic issues and action plans though civil discussion and democratic discourse while proposing solutions and developing action plans.
K-12 teachers who participate in this workshop will be engaging with the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE) Creating Collaborative Civic Spaces module through Google Classroom to support and empower schools and districts in cultivating and nurturing the collaborative civic spaces necessary to meet the instructional shifts within the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Social Studies.
Participants also will submit deliverables throughout their learning and develop a lesson plan exemplifying what creating a collaborative space aligned to the KAS for Social Studies looks like in practice.
Selected teachers will receive an $800 stipend for their participation in the workshop, which includes the completion and submission of high-quality deliverables.
