Question of the Week
Q: When does PearsonAccessnext open?
A: PearsonAccessnext (PAN) opens today, Monday, March 28 for the Kentucky Summative Assessments (KSA) for reading, mathematics, science, social studies, editing and mechanics and on-demand writing in grades 3-8, 10 and 11. Although testing is still several weeks away, opening now will allow District and Building Assessment Coordinators time to complete tasks necessary for the 2022 spring assessment window. Note: Districts are encouraged to start completing these tasks as soon as possible.
Trainings for both PAN and TestNav are available on the Meetings and Trainings page on the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) website and on the Kentucky Portal.
As a reminder, please make sure that the following tasks are completed:
- Update district and school profiles.
- Familiarize staff with PAN navigational instructions.
- District Assessments Coordinators (DACs) create user accounts.
- DACs and Building Assessment Coordinators (BACs) create test sessions.
- Prepare online testing environment with technology staff.
On the Kentucky Portal, Text-to-Speech (TTS) and IEP/504 Instructions are found under the PAN Guidance Document Tab.
Please refer to the KSA Important Dates for all KSA completion dates.
Text to Speech (TTS) and IEP Calculator Selections in Pearson Access Next (PAN)
The accounts for students who were marked in Infinite Campus for TTS and the IEP calculators when data was extracted earlier this month were loaded into the PAN system with those accommodations. The goal was to save schools and districts one additional step in the process of creating rosters and test sessions when PAN platform opens today. Students with a 504 are not reported back to the U.S. Department of Education so the system used to extract students within Infinite Campus (IC) are not permitted to pull students who are flagged with a 504. Any student that may qualify for TTS or a calculator through a 504 Plan could still use these accommodations on the state assessment, however they would need to be added into PAN manually.
Team members in the Division of Accountability, Data and Analysis worked with the Office of Special Education and Early Learning (OSEEL) to secure data for students who were flagged in IC with the TTS and calculator function during the roster load that took place on Tuesday, March 22. Schools and districts staff should verify that student accommodations in PAN are appearing correctly. For any students with unlocked plans in IC or identified after March 22, they would not appear in this upload and would need to be added manually. For specific directions on how to add students manually you may visit the Pearson Access Next Guidance Documents.
Assessment and Accountability Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Document
During the February DAC Training Hybrid Question and Answer Sessions, several questions were asked repeatedly. The 2021-2022 Kentucky Assessment and Accountability FAQ contains questions and answers that originated during the hybrid sessions. Questions and answers are included for the different assessment programs, the Student Data Review and Roster application, test security, accommodations, among others.
Assessment Scores in Infinite Campus
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) strives to publish student results data in Infinite Campus (IC) as it becomes available. KDE will publish KYOTE scores to districts beginning on Tuesday, March 29th.
Please email KDE data services inbox with any questions on this matter.
