Seal of Arts Excellence Guidance Now Available
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is pleased to announce new guidance for establishing a local Seal of Arts Excellence to recognize high school graduates who demonstrate an advanced level of specialization in one or more areas of visual and performing arts. The guidance can be found on the Seal of Arts Excellence webpage.
A new feature for creating a Seal of Arts Excellence on a student’s transcript will be available in Infinite Campus for the 2022-2023 school year. Districts will have the option of adding a Seal of Arts Excellence to a student’s transcript through the Graduation Tab that will include the date of completion as well as the area of specialization.

Twelve Districts Selected for Designing High-Quality Local Curriculum Pilot
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has completed the review process for the Designing High-Quality Local Curriculum Pilot. The 12 districts selected for the pilot will begin the work in January 2022 and continue through June 2023.
The awarded districts include: Anchorage Independent, Barbourville Independent, Carroll County, Caverna Independent, Estill County, Garrard County, Graves County, Livingston County, Perry County, Robertson County, Walton-Verona Independent and Williamstown Independent.
Following the unprecedented interruptions to learning resulting from COVID-19, states, districts and schools are working to retool their systems and structures to ensure they can equitably support all students. The Designing High-Quality Local Curriculum Pilot will help schools and districts develop a high-quality local curriculum, including the selection of high-quality instructional resources, connected to the Model Curriculum Framework.
Knowing there is a greater potential for sustained impact and increased student outcomes when there is aligned work at the state, district and school level, this pilot will serve as a model for multi-level, multi-year engagements that produce best practices for instructional leadership across the state.
KDE, alongside the Achievement Network (ANet), will provide support to pilot participants. Founded in 2005, ANet is a nonprofit dedicated to creating educational access and opportunity for all students. ANet partners with school and district leaders to support great teaching - teaching that is grounded in standards, shaped by data and built upon the successful practices of educators across the country.
This pilot will not only support local districts and schools in their development of a local curriculum, but also will inform KDE’s work in this area moving forward. Feedback will be regularly collected to understand district and school experience in the pilot. Participants will regularly share information, artifacts and data that informs KDE of pilot progress to help measure the effectiveness of the pilot and inform future work across the state.
