Question of the Week
Q: Are there Dropout Guidelines for the 2021-2022 school year?
A: The 2021-2022 Dropout Guidelines are now available on the KDE Dropout Data webpage. This data should be reviewed initially through the Infinite Campus (IC) KY State Reporting Dropout Report by the deadline of Nov. 1. After that date, there will be one final review through the Student Data Review and Rosters (SDRR) application. Instructions for review of the dropout data in SDRR will be provided in a Monday DAC Email prior to this final review period. Questions concerning Dropout Reporting may be directed to David Curd via phone (502) 564-9853, ext. 4744, email or Teams.
K Screen: OMS Scheduled Maintenance
On Wednesday Oct. 6, the Online Management System (OMS) will be unavailable at 8 p.m. EST for approximately four hours. The OMS should be available for data input by the morning of Oct. 7. If you have questions or need support, please contact Ben Riley.
K Screen: OMS Window Closing
On Oct. 15, the K Screen window will close. All K Screen data must be submitted in the Online Management System (OMS) and Infinite Campus (IC). Medical Nonparticipations are due Oct. 15 by 12 p.m. EST. DACs and District K Screen coordinators should be currently doing the following:
- Run weekly reports in the OMS to see the status of students screened and not screened. Please review the information in the K Screen Implementation Guide found on page 11.
- Checking OMS to ensure all students are visible. If a student is missing, please consult Appendix M of the K Screen Implementation Guide. Almost all issues regarding a student not showing in OMS are due to clerical errors in IC that don’t follow the protocols in Appendix M. Note: once an issue is resolved in IC it can take 10-14 days to reflect in OMS. Please do not wait to check this. It could result in OMS student profiles not being available before the deadline of Oct. 15.
- Check that Prior Settings data is being entered in IC.
- Remove duplicate screener entries by following the duplicate data cleanup guidance.
- If you have not logged in to OMS, please refer to the August K Screen Update and do so promptly.
- When the data is completely submitted download and keep a copy of it in .CSV format for reference.
If you have any questions or technical issues, please contact Ben Riley.
“Fort Thomas Independent Public Schools is located in the Northern Kentucky metropolitan area. The city of Fort Thomas is the largest in Campbell County and our school district enrolls nearly 3,200 students in preschool through grade 12. The district includes our marquee school, Highlands High School, as well as Highlands Middle School, Johnson Elementary, Moyer Elementary, and Woodfill Elementary. Four of the five schools in the district have been named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The school district values rigorous curriculum standards, exceptional parent involvement, community support, and excellence in extracurricular activities.
“An abundance of accolades has been given to the Fort Thomas School District. Most notably, Forbes.com named our district as one of the top 25 public schools in the country. Highlands High School was named one of “America’s Best High Schools” by U.S. News & World Report, receiving a Gold Medal designation. In addition, Cincy Magazine named Highlands High School the #1 school in Northern Kentucky, based on state rankings, ACT scores, and extracurricular accolades. We are dedicated to the mindset of, “Yes, and…,” meaning that we strive to maintain this high level of accomplishment, all while challenging ourselves to further new efforts that will provide our students with even more rich and relevant learning experiences.
“The school district has instituted a Portrait of a Graduate encompassing five (5) core competencies: Courageous Leader, Creative Problem Solver, Curious and Critical Thinker, Empathetic Collaborator, and Global Communicator. These competencies are our goals for what we want students to know, do and be like as they transition throughout our system, as well as in moving toward college, career and life. The Fort Thomas Independent Schools is complimenting this work with other structures, some of which include the Resiliency Poll, book studies and leadership academies for administrators, high quality district-wide professional learning, a crowd-sourcing initiative to garner input and support on improvement efforts, and the development of curriculum and instructional frameworks. We have also implemented studies programming at our Launch @ 20 Grand location, a professional studies learning center, where high school students explore career pathways, work on advanced academic coursework, engage in real problem-based learning projects, and collaborate with industry mentors. Launch @ 20 Grand also offers a district-wide Makerspace, a student pop-up shop, and serves as a convening center for teacher and administrator trainings.”
