Free Books for Your Title I-Funded Schools
Connected originally through the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE) Deputy Assistant Secretary Mark Washington, the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA) is assisting in a joint venture between the Marine Toys for Tots (TFT) Foundation and the UPS Store, Inc.
As a part of their literacy program, they will distribute 500,000 free books to Title I schools. The books are separated into grade spans (e.g., middle school) and are primarily STEM-focused. Their book distribution effort — which has been successfully implemented over several years — is fully described here: TFT Literacy Program Title I School Support.
If school districts are interested, they must complete an online Title I School Book Request Form and submit it directly to TFT. The 500,000 books are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
FY22 Consolidated GMAP Application
The Fiscal Year 2022 Consolidated Application is open in GMAP and is due Aug. 31. Allocations in GMAP are preliminary for the 2021-2022 school year. Final allocations will be released in fall 2021 upon receipt of final notification from the U.S. Department of Education.
Data Flexibility for the FY22 Application
As you begin working on the Title I, Part A section of your FY2022 Consolidated Application, you may benefit from flexibility offered for using data to determine within district allocations.
This U.S. Department of Education fact sheet explains the flexibility for using data from the 2019-2020 school year for the purposes of ranking and serving schools and discusses how to use data for determining equitable services. This information was shared in the May 17 Commissioner’s Monday Message. However, it came to our attention that the link to the fact sheet had broken.
Are you making the most of GMAP?
KDE has developed a 12-part Title I, Part A GMAP training video series to walk you through the Title I, Part A application in GMAP.
Each video focuses on a single page of the application, and then we also have provided a few general videos about GMAP features and the application submission process.
The new series will cover changes made to the Title I, Part A GMAP application for the FY22 application.
Monthly Title I Webinar
The July Title I webinar and accompanying PowerPoint are available on the Title I, Part A Documents and Resources webpage. During the webinar, information centered around Person Role Manager and the EL Notification letter.
The August webinar was held Aug. 26.
We value your feedback and would like to learn more about what is helpful and what you would like to see more of in the monthly webinars. We are keeping the webinar feedback survey open so you can continue to submit comments, ideas and questions. The Google survey can be accessed online. The survey is optional, and responses are anonymous. The feedback will be used to help ensure the monthly webinars meet your needs.
