Teaching and Learning Professional Learning Series: Evidence-Based Instructional Practices - Fall 2021 and Spring 2022
Research consistently indicates the importance of students having access to quality, standards-aligned grade-level instruction. All of the work to create a written guaranteed and viable curriculum, to break down the standards and create aligned assessments is necessary, but the quality of the day-to-day classroom instruction students receive has a significant impact on their overall achievement.
As teachers implement their local standards-aligned curriculum, it is important that they strategically and intentionally utilize evidence-based instructional practices that support students in reaching the intended learning outcomes.
To support teachers in this work, the Kentucky Department of Education’s 2021-2022 Teaching and Learning PL series will examine six evidenced-based instructional practices teachers can use to help students reach the grade-level expectations within the Kentucky Academic Standards. Each professional learning experience will consist of:
-
An overview video;
-
The general overview that defines what is meant by evidence-based instructional practices and why they are important;
-
A narrative introduction to each evidence-based instructional practice that synthesizes the current research; and
-
Content-specific resources to support implementation.
All resources will be made available on KYstandards.org on the dates listed below. The release of all materials will be communicated first through the Standards Newsletter. To subscribe to the Standards Newsletter, please sign up using the form on the KYstandards.org homepage.
