“The Assessment Playbook” Book Study Learning Plan and Resource Guide Now Available!
Designed by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) professional learning coordinators during the spring of 2021 with educators participating from across the state, “The Assessment Playbook for Distance and Blended Learning” Book Study was a huge success. It now has been packaged in a form you can use to facilitate your own group.
The plan can be modified to set a pace and emphasis that is appropriate for your group. Using a Google Classroom environment to encourage reflection and group discussion worked well for the KDE, but using notebooks and synchronous collaboration time may work better for your group.
“The Assessment Playbook” Book Study Learning Plan and Resource Guide can be accessed on the new Topic Studies webpage on KYstandards.org.

Seal of Biliteracy to be Available Through Infinite Campus in May
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is pleased to announce new guidance for establishing a local Seal of Biliteracy or other programs to recognize high school graduates who attained a high level of proficiency in one or more languages, in addition to English. The guidance can be found on the Seal of Biliteracy webpage.
A new feature for creating a Seal of Biliteracy on a student’s transcript will be available in Infinite Campus in May. Districts will have the option of adding a Seal of Biliteracy to a student’s transcript through the Graduation Tab, which will include the date of completion as well as the language. Parchment is working on a way to display this on eTranscripts for the 2021-2022 school year.

High-Quality Instructional Resources and the High-Quality Instructional Resource Coordinator
A key part of standards-aligned instruction is the use of high-quality instructional resources (HQIRs) to support student learning.
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has created the HQIR flyer to help promote the definition and rationale of high-quality instructional resources. Instructional Resources Alignment Rubrics also are available on the HQIR page to aid in the evaluation and selection of HQIRs aligned to state standards.
In order to better communicate future HQIR guidance and resources to districts, the high-quality instructional resource coordinator position has been created and is available in Open House. It is imperative that districts identify an individual to serve as their local HQIR coordinator.
Please work with your local web application administrator point of contact (WAAPOC) to set the appropriate contacts through the Web Security Administrator (WSA) application (sometimes called People Manager). To make changes, log into the Web Application tool and select the Web Security Administrator – WSA (or People Manager) link. You can find district WAAPOCs listed in the Open House School and District directory.
Please Note: Changes to access (group membership) made in WSA will update Open House immediately, which allows you to double check the appropriate contacts and email addresses.
