ACT shared the following information with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) yesterday.
Visual and Quantitative Information on the ACT Reading Test
ACT's research shows that the texts students read in challenging high school and college courses often include information presented in different formats. As part of the natural evolution of content on the ACT reading test, ACT is adding passages that include a graphic or quantitative element.
Beginning in spring 2021, one passage on the test may be accompanied by a graph, figure, or table that contains information relevant to the reading task. In the passages containing these visual and quantitative elements, some of the questions will ask the student to integrate the information from the passage and graphic to determine the best answer. These items will contribute to the student's score in the Integration of Knowledge and Ideas reporting category. The overall number of items on the reading test and time to complete the test remain unchanged.
For questions regarding the Visual and Quantitative Information, please contact ACT by email at statetesting@act.org.
