Kentucky Department of Education/Kentucky School Counseling Association Webinar
The Kentucky Department of Education is teaming up with the Kentucky School Counseling Association to provide a webinar at 3 p.m. ET Feb. 4 to celebrate National School Counseling Week and Black History Month.
“Remaining Trauma-Focused: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” by Dr. Nicole Fields, Jefferson County Public Schools
Learning objectives:
- Acknowledge and address events that cause trauma
- Discuss the realities of student trauma in virtual platforms and face-to-face settings
- Identify best practices for fostering and applying effective trauma-informed care in schools
Overview:
Our students have been inundated with vicarious trauma since January 2020. By implementing trauma-informed care (TIC) practices, we can treat the mental, social, emotional, academic and physical barriers our students are facing.
TIC considers past trauma and the resulting coping mechanisms when attempting to understand behaviors and treat students. Counselors are provided TIC tools to address student trauma within their schools. We have to address yesterday and today so that tomorrow can be better.
