Training Deadline

The deadline to have entered council member training information into the SBDM database was Nov. 1. If there was an issue getting your members entered before that deadline, please email Ashlie Cox.

Monthly Agenda Topics

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) recently updated the SBDM Monthly Agenda Topics guidance document. The topics and reminders listed within the resource are suggestions for consideration for principals when planning agendas for monthly SBDM meetings.

November topics include:

  • Completing diagnostics that are due Nov. 1;
  • Reviewing and revising policies (these could include assignment of instructional and non-instructional staff time, student assignment and school schedule); and
  • Council training verification due by Nov. 1.

Phase Three: Comprehensive Improvement Planning and 2020-2021 Continuous Improvement Options

Schools are required to re-evaluate their needs and strategies each year to determine if their Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) goals will change.

Due to the lack of K-PREP data for the 2019-2020 school year, completing the goal-setting template during phase three of the improvement planning process may prove challenging. KDE suggests the following three options for consideration:

  1. No change: You may determine that the goals set for the 2019-2020 school year are still appropriate for moving student achievement forward. If those goals were ambitious and school closure made attainment unlikely, you may determine that your 2020-2021 goals should remain the same.
  2. Create goals aligned to your own formative and summative assessment data: You may have an assessment system that includes formative and summative assessments that provide districtwide or schoolwide data. Such data may be used to set and evaluate goals for the 2020-2021 school year.
  3. Implement statistical projections: You may have a clear picture of the trajectory of your scores over the past few years. You may choose to consider your past data and the increases made to estimate what could have been expected for 2019-2020 and determine appropriate goals for 2020-2021. To learn more about this option, view the "Forecasting Data to Inform Continuous Improvement Goals" webinar.

For more information on these three options, visit the COVID-19 2020-21 Improvement Planning: "Living Continuous Improvement" document.

During phase three of the comprehensive improvement planning process, schools are required to complete and submit the following diagnostics in eProve:

  • Professional Development Plan for Schools - New
  • Comprehensive School Improvement Plan
  • Executive Summary for Schools
  • Closing the Achievement Gap Diagnostic

The diagnostics encourage thoughtful reflection of a school’s current state to move to the desired state. Also, schools must address critical needs specified in the Needs Assessment and align strategies and activities to those needs. The deadline for submitting the diagnostics is Jan. 1.

Virtual SBDM Council Meetings

If your specific county is red on the COVID-19 Current Incidence Rate in Kentucky map and/or COVID-19 cases are rapidly increasing, consider meeting virtually and allowing the public an opportunity to attend via your meeting’s link.

If a council decides to meet in-person, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Healthy at School guidelines must be followed, which include mask wearing and social distancing.
