Commissioner Glass hosts Q&A with Kentucky superintendents

In his first meeting with the Superintendents Advisory Council (SAC) on Sept. 28, Kentucky’s Education Commissioner Jason E. Glass held a virtual question-and-answer session to allow members to ask questions of him and the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and to better get to know members and their districts.

Glass, who officially began his role as Kentucky’s commissioner of education on Sept. 15, began the meeting by asking each council member to introduce themselves and talk about their districts.

Kentucky teachers provide feedback on back-to-school during COVID-19

The Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE) Teachers Advisory Council (TAC) convened virtually on Oct. 1 to discuss and provide feedback to the department on how their back-to-school experiences have gone thus far.

The council, which is comprised of 20 teacher leaders from across the Commonwealth, represents districts that have implemented a variety of strategies for reopening. Some are using virtual learning, others have opted for in-person instruction and some are using a hybrid of both.

Special Superintendents' Webcast: September 29, 2020

Kentucky superintendents share school reopening advice, get revised metric for holding in-person classes

Participants in the Kentucky Department of Education’s Sept. 29 Special Superintendents’ Webcast heard from leaders of four school districts on how reopening to in-person instruction amid the pandemic has gone so far, and from state officials about updates to the color-coded metric used to determine whether to hold in-person classes.

While most Kentucky public schools reopened for in-person classes on Sept. 28, some reopened earlier, and the four superintendents discussed what worked and what needed improvement based on their experiences.
