'Creating Collaborative Civic Spaces' Social Studies Module Now Available!
In this module, participants explore the value of creating collaborative civic spaces in classrooms to enable effective communication among students. The goal of this module is to support and empower schools and districts in cultivating and nurturing the collaborative civic spaces necessary to meet the instructional shifts within the Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies.
Participants will:
- Examine data that highlights some of the challenges to creating collaborative civic spaces;
- Examine the role of teachers and students in building a collaborative civic space;
- Explore tools and resources to engage student voice in building a collaborative civic space;
- Examine the proven practice of current and controversial issue discussions; and
- Analyze strategies that can be used to support current and controversial issue discussions through inquiry.
The "Creating Collaborative Civic Spaces" Module consists of six sections designed to be administered in professional learning community sessions and is available on the Social Studies Professional Learning Modules webpage.
