Standards Implementation Guides

Updated Standards Implementation Guides Now Available

KDE's Standards Implementation Guides help schools and districts identify resources available from the department to support standards implementation.

Schools and districts may be in various stages of the standards implementation process and the Standards Implementation Guides provide a list of resources by the content area that may be utilized at each stage. Updated content area guides for Reading and Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science are now available in addition to a new general Standards Implementation Guide.

All guides can be found on the Standards Implementation Guides webpage on KYstandards.org.

Reminder: Video Series to Help Educators Prepare to Address Academic Gaps When Schools Restart

If you haven’t gotten all the way through the Video Series to Help Educators Prepare to Address Academic Gaps When Schools Restart, now is a great time to finish!

This video series offers guidance on next steps for how educators can plan and prepare for addressing knowledge gaps due to extended remote learning as a result of the COVID-19 emergency. Stage one addresses drafting and adjusted curriculum and was released in the spring of 2020 and stage two addresses meeting learners' academic needs and was released in the summer of 2020.

Academic Re-entry Stage One: Drafting an Adjusted Curriculum

Each different part outlined in the "COVID-19 Considerations for Reopening Schools Academic Re-entry, Stage One: Drafting an Adjusted Curriculum" document is discussed in a webcast.

Academic Re-entry Stage Two: Meeting Learners' Academic Needs

Each different part outlined in the COVID-19 Considerations for Reopening Schools - Academic Re-entry, Stage Two: Meeting Learners' Academic Needs document is discussed in an accompanying video.

Kentucky Academic Standards for five content areas loaded for all districts

Infinite Campus has loaded the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Reading and Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Computer Science to all districts. The process did not change any KAS content that has previously been imported.

This process created a new rubric called “Blank Rubric,” which was assigned to the KAS items. Districts can assign a different rubric in the Standards Bank or rename “Blank Rubric” and define the scores as desired. Next steps for utilizing the KAS in Infinite Campus include configuring rubrics and assigning standards to courses.

The KAS in Infinite Campus should be regarded as an interactive digital companion that can provide direct support for teachers who wish to utilize such features as standards-based grading, progress monitoring and lesson planning in Infinite Campus.

To design high-quality, standards-aligned instruction, educators should continue to use the KAS documents available on the KYstandards.org. Additionally, for digital efficiencies, this will establish the framework to include future course-by-course, course code alignment with connected academic standards through our statewide student information system.

The KAS for Health Education, Physical Educationand Career Studies and Financial Literacy also are now available for import. KDE expects these content areas will be loaded by Infinite Campus soon. See "Import Kentucky Academic Standards into Infinite Campus" for detailed instructions.
