New Kentucky Academic Standards for Career Studies and Financial Literacy approved

New Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Career Studies and Financial Literacy have been adopted and are now available at KYstandards.org.

The newly-revised KAS for Career Studies and Financial Literacy replace Kentucky’s previous Vocational Studies standards and were promulgated by the Kentucky Board of Education within administrative regulation 704 KAR 8:080. The standards were revised based on KRS 158.6453, which requires standards to be reviewed and revised every 6 years.

The KAS for Career Studies and Financial Literacy are organized by grade bands and include three domains:

Resources are available to assist schools with implementing the new standards. The first module, “Getting to Know Your KAS Module,” provides an overview of the standards creation process and the architecture and domains of the standards. It includes a facilitator's guide and PowerPoint.

The second module, “KAS for Career Studies and Financial Literacy Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Study,” includes a facilitator’s guide, PowerPoint and accompanying grade band materials. The PLC study guides participants to explore the standards, consider how they may be integrated across content areas and provides a mapping tool to determine where and when each standard is taught.

For more information about these standards, email Teresa Rogers or call her at (502) 892-6615, ext. 4524.
