Making Kentucky Family Math Night Resources Work for You
Kentucky Family Math Nights provide educators, children and family members an opportunity to learn and talk about mathematics in an engaging, supportive environment. In this video, Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) math consultants share how these activities might be adapted from in-person evenings to virtual family math experiences that can happen anytime.
With the help of the Kentucky Family Math Night resources, family members can participate in their child’s learning and support their academic success.
The Kentucky Family Math Night Facilitator Guide is organized by activity and each activity has been aligned to the content and practice standards from the Kentucky Academic Standards for Mathematics. Each activity includes the purpose, a list of linked materials, instructions and family prompts. As you review the guide, you’ll learn about the importance of building a strong foundation for mathematics in elementary school and how the family can support that strong foundation through engaging in children’s math learning, including guidance on research-based instructional strategies that support mathematics learning.
Kentucky Family Math Night resources are brought to you through a partnership of the Kentucky Department of Education, the Kentucky Center for Mathematics, REL Appalachia and the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence. The activities are designed to create a shared understanding of math concepts and raise expectations of math knowledge and achievement.
You can access these resources and more on the Family Mathematics Resources webpage and share mathematics with everyone who makes your school a family!
