(FRANKFORT, KY) – The 2020 Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) CACFP week is scheduled for March 15-21. The program served more than 29 million meals to more than 90,000 participants at nearly 2,000 locations throughout Kentucky last year.
In addition to helping combat food insecurity, CACFP is a vital program that helps make care more affordable for parents of young children, as well as caregivers of the elderly and disabled. It contributes to the wellness, healthy growth and development of young children, as well as the health and wellness of older adults and chronically impaired disabled people.
CACFP is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE). It reimburses childcare centers, adult day cares, head starts, family day care homes, emergency shelters and at-risk after-school programs for providing healthy meals. CACFP reimburses approved sponsors for meals served that meet the federal nutritional meal pattern guidelines. Sponsors receive reimbursements from KDE based on the number of qualifying meals served. All eligible meals served to eligible children and/or adults are reimbursed based on rate guidelines issued by the USDA annually.
