Education Professional Standards Board to meet Dec. 9

(FRANKFORT, KY) – The Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) will meet Dec. 9, at the Kentucky Department of Education in Frankfort. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET in room 514 on the 5th floor of 300 Sower Blvd. The EPSB Waiver Committee will meet before the regular board meeting at 8:30 a.m. ET in room 516.

The EPSB has 21 voting members. The president of the Council on Postsecondary Education, or his designee, and the secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, or his designee, also serve as non-voting members of the EPSB. The commissioner of education serves in a non-voting role as the executive secretary of the EPSB.


Primarily, the EPSB has the authority and responsibility to:

  • Establish standards and requirements for obtaining and maintaining a teaching certificate;
  • Issue, renew, revoke, suspend or refuse to issue or renew; impose probationary or supervisory conditions upon;
  • Issue a written reprimand or admonishment; or any combination of actions regarding any certificate; and
  • Set standards for, approve and evaluate college, university and school districts programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.
